MedGyn

Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and stress urinary incontinence (SUI) are far more common than many realize—and yet, they remain under-discussed, underdiagnosed, and undertreated. At MedGyn, we are committed to changing that narrative by offering high-quality, clinically designed pessaries that support women’s pelvic health with dignity, reliability, and compassion.

A Hidden Struggle Comes to Light

A recent article published by The Cut, a division of New York Magazine, powerfully illustrates the deeply personal experience of living with prolapse. In the essay, writer Kailyn McCord shares her postpartum journey through pelvic organ prolapse, describing not just the physical symptoms, but the mental and emotional toll they took:

“I was ashamed of the bulge in my vagina,” McCord writes, candidly addressing the stigma and silence surrounding prolapse. For months, she was advised to “just do kegels” and wait, while the symptoms—heaviness, discomfort, and loss of control—continued to worsen. It wasn’t until she met with a pelvic floor therapist and was fitted for a ring pessary that relief truly began. “The change was immediate,” she explains. “I don’t feel it when I’m wearing it… much of the time, I forget I have a prolapse.”

What Is a Pessary?

A vaginal pessary is a removable medical device that provides support for pelvic organs, helping alleviate symptoms of prolapse or incontinence. Pessaries come in a range of types and sizes—including ring, Gellhorn, and cube designs—each tailored to meet individual anatomical needs and lifestyle preferences.

Pessaries: Non-Surgical Relief for Prolapse and Incontinence

For many women—like McCord—pessaries offer a safe, non-surgical solution that restores not only pelvic support but also daily function and confidence. Whether used as a long-term management strategy or a transitional therapy before or after surgery,

pessaries empower patients to return to the activities they love without discomfort or interruption.

Pessaries also play a vital role in treating stress urinary incontinence, providing urethral support to prevent involuntary leakage

during physical activity or exertion.

Breaking the Silence

One of the most important takeaways from McCord’s story is the emotional burden carried by many women experiencing POP or SUI. Shame, confusion, and delayed diagnosis can be just as damaging as the physical symptoms. As a medical device manufacturer, we recognize our responsibility to not only supply innovative solutions—but also to elevate awareness and encourage open dialogue.

“I had not known how much I needed a physical reminder that my body was being cared for—by me, by others, by medicine.”
